Co-Founder, Tanoti Crafts
Jacqueline is not only an advocate of indigenous crafts but also a staunch believer in the transformative power of craft as a vital component in community development. She ardently champions the advancement of the local craft sector, asserting that "as much as their craft defines a people, craft also strengthens them with better lives and improved livelihoods". In 2012, Jackie established Tanoti, initially a modest songket workshop comprising 13 artisans in Kuching, Sarawak. Over the past 12 years, Tanoti has flourished into a platform engaging over 500 artisans from 25 rural and remote villages across Sarawak, garnering both local and international acclaim for its impactful work in craft and social development. To further her mission of revolutionizing the artisanal craft industry, Jackie has curated various industry events, notably the TENUN Fashion Week and the Hasanah Gold Threads Awards, celebrating handwoven fashion from 46 weaving communities across Southeast Asia and acknowledging excellence in traditional textiles nationwide. Jackie, a graduate with a LLB (Bachelor of Laws) from the University of Bristol, United Kingdom, transitioned from an 18-year career in Investment Banking to devote her energies to becoming an influential figure in Malaysia's lesser-known crafts sector.
